Substrata 1.1 | thanks + recap + images
Dear festival attendees, partners, invites, supporters, and artists,
It is with great satisfaction that I'm fortunate to announce the inaugural Substrata edition (1.1) was a success!
From the amazing live performances and the inspiring contributions on the booklets by dear friends and colleagues to the respectful and attentive audience, I'm more than glad we've had such an amazing start.
We met all of our expectations and more. I'm forever grateful to you for trusting our organizational and curatorial skills. Furthermore, your willingness to spend your hard earned money on this event certainly showed that there is an audience for advance sound in Seattle and beyond (about 40% of our audience came from outside of Seattle).
For those who didn't make it, the field trip was an amazing and unique experience that brought together strangers from all walks of life only connected (at first) by their shared love of advance sound and ideas.
I want to thank everybody involved with the festival organization, from the dedicated small staff comprised of friends and family to the last minute volunteers who came thru from within the dedicated community that supported Substrata. I want to also thank Steve Peters, the Wayward Music Series and Nonsequitur, as well as the staff at the Good Shepherd Center.
This initial success would have not been possible without the valuable and enormous contributions of the following folks:
Paul Buxton | Managing Director
Vance Galloway | Producer & Tech Director
Rita Jean Irisarri | Project Manager & Booklet Design
Laura Jacobsen | Ticketing & Field Trip tour guide
Rhett Johnson | Sound Tech
Briana Jones | Volunteer
Samantha Pease | Volunteer
Jefferson Petrey | Editor
Phil Petrocelli | Art Director
Benjamin Torrence | Sound Tech
Special thanks to: Oren Ambarchi, Todd Burns, Michael Cina, Crys Cole, Matthew Cooper, Rayna DeNiord, Lawrence English, Patric Fallon, Marcus Fischer, Nils Frahm, Eric Grandy, Geir Jenssen, Mike Jedlicka (thanks for helping with the field trip driving!), Thomas Meluch, Dave Segal, Jon Wozencroft, and Kelly Wyse.
I've created a Flickr pool here: Substrata 1.1
If you have any pictures to share, please feel free to post or tag.
I'm looking forward to future editions and plans, but until then, please keep in touch. We have a Facebook page here: substratafestival and we'll be making future announcements via our website: www.substratafestival.com.
Lastly, many of you have asked about the poster we produced for the festival. The poster was designed by Phil Petrocelli. A few of you have expressed a wish to purchase a copy. Due to the expense we can only print to order so please tell us if you would like a copy. The cost to us is $40 (+ shipping and handling) and the dimensions of print are 24” X 36”. To order, you can do so thru PayPal, but first please send us an email at substratafestival@gmail.com to discuss cost of shipping.
Once again, THANK YOU for making Substrata 1.1 special!
Bests,
-rfl
